Confession: I’m Finding It Hard To Get My Marketing Done

I'll admit it: I struggle to carve out dedicated time for marketing amidst the chaos of running my (ahem) marketing business. Marketing can just feel like an impossible task when your business is really growing. It's the relentless challenge that keeps us up at night, looming over our already packed schedules like a dark cloud.

But here's the truth: marketing is non-negotiable. And, it’s when you are busy that you need marketing the most. Marketing is the lifeblood of our businesses, the fuel that keeps our business not only running but growing. Without it, our business will become stagnant while we watch our competitors race ahead.

So what's the solution? How do we find the time to tackle marketing tasks consistently when our days are already filled with meetings, emails, and never-ending to-do lists?

The answer lies in breaking our marketing tasks down into manageable chunks. Instead of trying to tackle everything at once, we can make progress by dedicating just 20 minutes a day to marketing and being consistent. It's a simple yet powerful strategy that allows us to chip away at our marketing objectives, one small step at a time.

I've put together a list of eight marketing tasks that take 20 minutes or less to complete. These bite-sized tasks are designed to fit seamlessly into even the busiest of schedules, making it easier than ever to get your marketing done and drive growth for your business.

Here’s a tip! If you’ve been known to procrastinate with your marketing, start small. Add just one or two blocks of ‘20 minutes’ per week. Once you’ve had some success with that, add a 20-minute block for marketing to each workday. Find yourself ready for more?  Double down and add a marketing block in the morning and afternoon each day.

Beware of going down the marketing rabbit hole though, and keep your marketing time blocks to 20-minutes. As business owners, we think the more we do, the more our business will grow, but it’s not always the case. Our goal is to create a consistent routine for marketing our business, so stay on task and watch your time.

Here are my recommended 20-minute blocks of time to start with, which should help you make meaningful progress with your marketing:

1. Social Media Engagement:

Spend 20 minutes engaging with your audience on social media. Respond to comments, share valuable content, and participate in relevant conversations. Building relationships with your audience will increase brand loyalty and drive engagement.

2. Content Strategy & Creation:

Use your 20 minutes to brainstorm content ideas and plan out your weekly content strategy and ensure it aligns with your brand messaging and goals. Save yourself some time by recycling past content.

3. Email List Growth:

Dedicate time to promoting a lead magnet, event, or special offer to grow your email list. Share it across your social media channels on your profiles or stories and be sure to ask for their email address before handing over all the details

4. Networking:

Take 20 minutes to network online by participating in virtual events, webinars, or industry forums. Connect with fellow entrepreneurs, potential clients, or collaborators and expand your professional network.

5. Website Optimization:

Invest time in optimizing your website for better performance. Update your homepage, refine product descriptions, add a blog or optimize your call-to-action buttons to improve user experience and drive conversions.

6. Check In With Your Target Audience:

Spend time researching the latest interests and trends with your target audience. What are their current needs, concerns, and preferences. Stay updated on industry trends, consumer behavior, and shifts in your target market to tailor your marketing efforts effectively.

7. Review Analytics:

Set aside 20 minutes to review your website and social media analytics. Track key metrics like engagement, traffic, and conversions to evaluate the performance of your marketing campaigns and identify areas for improvement.

8. Customer Engagement:

Take 20 minutes to engage with your existing customers. Send personalized thank-you emails, respond to inquiries or feedback, respond to Google Reviews, or check in with clients to see how they're doing. Building strong relationships with your customers fosters loyalty and encourages repeat business.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the demands of marketing, know that you're not alone. Also, know that there's a solution—a system you can use to get marketing done one step at a time. By dedicating just 20 minutes a day to marketing, you can get your marketing done and grow your business.

Remember, it's not about the amount of time you spend on marketing, but the consistency and focus you bring to each task. So take a deep breath, roll up your sleeves, and give this a try – one 20-minute session at a time. And, let me know what you think!
